Jade
Jade is the very first horse Jeremy owned and is the reason I started Dusty Road Horses. He is a '97 Quarter Horse/Morgan cross gelding. He taught me a lot about training, handling, and caring for horses. He was my go-to trail companion with whom I spent countless hours in the saddle. Jade previously belonged to my grandfather who lost his battle with cancer in 1999. Unfortunately, we lost Jade to colic unexpectedly in 2024. A piece of my heart is now buried beneath the willow near the center of our property. Rest easy my friend... |
Two of my favorites after ten seasons of chuckwagon racing (2008-2017). Murphy was a wagon horse prior to me buying him. He worked great for a few years but just had too much power so he was put back on the hitch. He still rides like a dream. Kenny is a soft-hearted character that stole my heart in 2014 when I rode along to Ohio and he was brought back to become a chuckwagon horse. He was primarily a saddle horse but was also broke for the hitch.
These two were also part of Kayla and my wedding day in October 2014 which is another reason I wanted to have them both here at Dusty Road. Murphy and Kenny are now probably retired for good and spend their days out on pasture. |

Barn Name: Gus
$750 - 2018 brings Gus some soundness issues in his front end; pasture injury now causing arthritis?. We wouldn't mind finding him a home as a companion horse. Gus is a 2013 gelding born in our first foaling season at Dusty Road Horses. He was meant to be sold but somewhere along the line Kayla fell in love and laid claim to him. Gus had his first 45 days put on at the trainer (August-September 2016) and has been used as a trail mount, primarily for Kayla since that time. |

Barn Name: Drifter
NFS Drifter was purchased at the same time as Shorty as we were searching for a new beginner-safe trail horse for Owen after we unexpectedly lost Jade. He is a bit quirky, but is proving to be an exceptional trail horse. We haven't been able to find anything that fazes him out on the trail. Crosses water and over downed trees like a pro. He does like to go out with a ground-eating pace although he is not difficult to keep at a walk and no funny business in doing so. I think he'll be a great partner for Owen in a couple years when his confidence grows. |

Barn Name: Shorty
NFS Shorty was purchased at the same time as Drifter as we were searching for a new beginner-safe trail horse for Owen after we unexpectedly lost Jade. Shorty also crosses water and goes over downed trees like a pro. He, too, walks out with a quick pace but his smaller size makes him a little less intimidating. He and Owen have hit it off pretty well together and he should help build Owen's confidence for the next couple years. |
